The son of the light - the book with the perfect main character

The son of the light (The Ramses Series #1)
Christian Jacq

I was exploring my local library looking for something to read when my eyes found the shelf with the books of Christian Jacq. I remembered reading the series The Stone of Light. Back then I was bored sick with it. I read approximately ten other books while reading this series. But, when done, I felt really good with myself because of all the things I had learned while reading it. So I decided, with the upcoming exams, that it would be good to read a book that wouldn’t take all my time. I had heard a lot about The Ramses series so I decided to read that one.

I was surprised, stunned. Let’s just say, that I didn’t prepare for my exams that weekend. I even postponed reading Jurassic Park (for my Cambridge exam next weekend). It was so impossibly much better that The Stone of Light series. Promise me that, if any of you have read The Stone of Light series and fell asleep, then read The Son of The Light. Just do it. It’s excellent.

The Son of The Light is a nice mix of fiction and facts. We know that the writer knows what he’s talking about so some of the most rough facts (his father’s name, the name of his brother and so on) are, in fact, true. I don’t know about Ramses’ personality. I assume Christian Jacq has made that up himself. The story concerns Ramses the 2. and his training to be pharaoh. He’s actually the youngest son but I think I can say, without ruining everything that he becomes heir to the throne. (If you didn’t know that Ramses the 2. was one of ancient Egypt’s most famous pharaohs, then…)

Ramses is the strong brother, popular with the army, good looking, in good shape, he doesn’t lie and won’t pretend to like someone of political reasons. Chenar, Ramses’ bigger brother is the political, vain, dishonest brother. As soon as he discovers that Ramses is the new heir, he begins planning how to overthrow him.

I recommend this book for people that do not need constant action in a book and people who like history. I’m certainly looking forward to reading the next book in the series.
